Ron Gillam

Dr. Ron Gillam holds the Raymond L. and Eloise H. Lillywhite Chair in the Department of Communication Disorders and Deaf Education (COMD-DE). Ron’s early research explored various cognitive mechanisms that underlie language impairments in children. For the past five years, Dr. Gillam’s research has focused on practical issues related to the assessment and treatment of children with language impairments. Dr. Gillam was the principal investigator on a national clinical trial to compare three language intervention programs. Currently, Ron is directing a federally-funded study of diagnostic markers of language impairment in bilingual children. Dr. Gillam has published two books, two language tests, and more than 90 articles and book chapters. Since 2004, he has delivered 72 invited or peer-reviewed presentations at universities or professional meetings. In January, he was the keynote speaker for the first International Speech, Language, and Hearing Conference held at the University of Talca in Chile. Recently, Dr. Gillam was awarded the Haydn Williams Fellowship for research and teaching at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. Ron has served as an associate editor of the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, and Topics in Language Disorders, and he has served on numerous grant review committees for the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Education.
